Star Tykes Child Care

Learn, Play and Grow

About me

My name is Rebecca and at Star Tykes childcare I aim to provide a caring, secure and friendly home where I will encourage children to develop their physical, social and emotional skills and will encourage the children to be respectful of others, share, use good manners and have fun whilst learning through my practices with Educational Entertainment ('Edu-tainment'.)

I am a registered Childminder with the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and will care for no more than 10 children up to the age of 12 years old. No more than 3 of the 10 will be under full time school age and no more than 2 will be under 18 months including my own children. I can also cater for older children (12+ years) after school if required..

Care is available for Full days both Full Time and Part Time. I can also cater for before and after school hours for my designated school Ysgol Croes Atti in Shotton and Brookfield Connahs Quay. I can also accommodate half days (5 hours) at a reduced rate although available depends on current numbers and arrangements. I will consider the care of any child and assess each child’s needs individually, however please note that I do not have wheelchair access to my setting at present.

I have completed all the essential childminder training including Level 3 in Home-based Childcare and have also completed training at Level 2 in Understanding how parents support children’s behaviour and have a  Level 3 Diploma in CCLD. I am also qualified in Basic Paediatric First Aid and obtain permission from parents to seek emergency first aid. I have a Level 2 in Food hygiene which enables me to create healthy and nutritious food and snacks for all children. Upon arrival at my premises, parents will be provided with Policies and procedures. This includes all relevant information regarding the safe care of the children in my setting including Accident and Emergency information policies and also details of an associate who can be called in the unexpected event of an emergency to care for the children in my absence.

I am highly experienced with working with children from providing Entertainment for Children at Haven Holidays and Gulliver’s World Theme Parks, Managing busy indoor Play centres such as Wizz Kids, Funky Monkeys and Fun4All to running a successful Party business with Star Tykes Party Entertainment alongside working with one of the UK’s top nursery Franchises Busy Bee’s in Ewloe.

About my Setting

I run my Childminding business from my home in Connah’s Quay in Deeside, North Wales. It is a quiet cul-de sac populated by families with children and has 2 adjacent parks and local amenities nearby. I live with my partner Daniel and am a non-smoker. I have an 8 year old daughter Seren from a previous relationship and my partner has 3 children who visit on weekends. We have an array of affectionate pets including Gerbils, Fancy Rats, Fish and 3 dogs who are all very friendly and used to being handled on a daily basis. I also have exotic animals such as a hognose snake , a crested gecko and a bearded dragon which are only handled during specific times of the day. The pets have their own boundaries and are kept separate from the children during their stay with the exception of the dogs whom are granted access to be petted by the children when supervised. To the rear of the property consists of a newly refurbished garden area for play with grass area for play and a herb planter for gardening activities. I have Sandpit and Water area for summer activities plus plenty of all weather toys and games for the outside area. I am a keen gardener I encourage the children to plant and pot their own flowers, fruit and veg in our mini Greenhouse area during Spring and Summer.

Why Choose a Childminder?

  • Registered Childminders offer flexible home-based childcare in a family environment rather than the more institutional

    environment of a nursery.

  • They are inspected regularly to ensure they meet or exceed The National Standards and are fully insured.

  • Childminders and family members aged 16+ are checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

  • Small numbers of children with a childminder means each child can receive the individual care and attention that they

need and children can thrive in a small group usually of two or three children - a ratio that nurseries can not hope to

  • Parents have the satisfaction of knowing that both they and their child will be forming a relationship with just one carer.

Recent research has shown that children benefit from care in a family style environment, where they can bond with a

    regular caregiver.

  • Brothers and Sisters of all ages can be looked after together.  Childminders can look after children from babies to

teenagers offering an unrivalled continuity of care.

  • More flexibility around meal times, sleep times and planned activities.  Hours can also be far more flexible than those

of a nursery, especially valuable when parents work part-time or unusual hours.

  • All childminders are different, and parents can choose the one they find most suitable for themselves and their child.

Many parents prefer their children to be in the less institutionalised setting of a childminder's home, rather than a

  • Childminders offer greater flexibility because they work at home.  If you have unusual hours, special needs or irregular

work patterns, childminders are often the best option. Some childminders are registered to provide overnight care,

although this is not a service that I offer at this moment.

  • The Families, Children and Child Care study (FCCC) says that Childminders are the next best thing to being at home

with Mother.  A Registered Childminder has the advantage of being able to offer good quality care for children in a

    secure, loving, home environment.
